Protect the Waterfront
Waterfront property owners are on the front lines of defense for looking after water quality! Natural, vegetated shorelines (as opposed to seawalls) help preserve the integrity of wildlife habitat and will prevent erosion. Even if a seawall is already present or unavoidable, there are many things property owners can do, such as creating a 15- to 30-foot buffer area between a manicured lawn and the waterfront to prevent runoff from entering the water or a nearby storm drain. And remember, water runs downstream, so everyone in Florida can help improve water quality!
