The Blackwater River State Forest, located between the towns of Milton and Munson,
offers an 8 mile scenic drive through gently rolling longleaf pines uplands.
The Forest also offers hiking on the Florida Trail and canoeing on its shallow
creeks. Don’t miss the pitcher plant bogs that bloom in April and May.

The Fort Pickens Aquatic Preserve and the Yellow River Marsh Aquatic Preserve
are two of four aquatic preserves managed by the staff at the Northwest Florida
Aquatic Preserves Office. The office is located at Garcon Point in the Yellow
River Marsh State Park. Hiking trails invite the public to learn about native
upland habitats in the area. Visit the site for a unique adventure into Northwest
Florida’s natural history!
5. Arcadia Mill Complex

The Arcadia Mill Site in Milton represents Florida’s first and largest
Early American water-powered industrial complex. During it’s 38-year operation
(1817 to 1855) the various mills, shops, mule-drawn railroad and sixteen-mile
log flume played a pivotal role in the political and economic development of
northwest Florida. Today the archeological site offers a museum and a boardwalk
trail that overlooks Pond Creek.

The Wildlife Sanctuary provides a home for over 100 injured or orphaned indigenous
animals including deer, beavers, fox and a variety of birds such as bald eagles,
golden eagles, owls and hawks. A small donation is requested to help cover increasing
expenses. Visiting hours are Wednesday - Saturday: 12 noon to 3:30 p.m.

Lake Stone Campground is a 100-acre campground located in northern Escambia
County. Recently updated, there is a campsite for every type of camper from
tent to large RV. The facilities include a boat ramp, an indoor public use building,
a playground, showers, restrooms, a fishing pier, security lights, electrical
and water hookups, a sewage dump station, picnic areas and the beautiful freshwater
lake. Note: Gasoline engines are not allowed on Lake Stone.

The Milton Gardens were cleared in 1995 for the construction of a greenhouse,
a shade house and nursery production facilities for the University of Florida
teaching program. Master Gardeners from Santa Rosa and Escambia counties have
contributed countless hours planting and maintaining the nearly 2 acres of trial
and demonstration gardens designed by Dr. Richard K. Schoellhorn and Dr. Mack
Thetford. The facility is a popular destination for garden clubs, horticulture
study groups, homeowners, visiting scientists and school classes.
